Syrinx Technology is an Australian based organisation specialising in the research and development of medical simulators, predominantly for the field of anaesthesia.
Syrinx Technology's R&D team consists of a group of highly experienced professionals with academic qualifications and a combined 50 years of experience in: Specialist Anaesthesia, Biomedical and Mechanical Engineering ,Psychiatry and Software Analysis and Design.
Syrinx has been developing simulators since the early 1990's, often producing world wide 'technological firsts' in their field. Syrinx's simulators are actively used in Australian based hospitals and simulation centres for the essential training/retraining of medical students and Doctors.

Stewart graduated from the UNSW with a MBBS in 1987. He has postgraduate studies in Biomedical Engineering, Specialist Anaesthesia, Aeromedicine and is a Fellow of the Australia and New Zealand College of Anaethetists (FANZCA). He has been involved in mathematical simulation since the late 1970's and the development of "hardware" simulators since 1994. In 1995, he and Dr Bill Lyndon realised the value of a Simulator for teaching Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT). Subsequently developed by SYRINX this became the ACTOR ECT simulator. As well as practising Anaesthesia, he has worked in the Medical Devices industry in both development and management. A practising Christian, he enjoys technological toys, flower arranging, coffee with friends and is a James Taylor fan.
Ray has extensive experience in the petrochemical industry, including product handling, pipeline design terminal construction, and he developed the hazard-operation-analysis Workshops. Last century he built the largest LPG storage facility in Australia. In the process he fine tuned mathematical models of catastrophic failures, making the real world connections to ameliorate such disasters. He is also very handy in the workshop. A term like "mechanical engineer" is where this man starts, not ends.
Nicole has studied Hospital Administration, IT, and Business Management. After a short career in Hospital Management, Nicole studied IT with particular attention to Business Analysis. Following Business Analyst contracts in several "big players" [IBM, AMP, NRMA, Clearview, R.A.G.S.] she came to Syrinx as Business/IT Advisor. She has two very sporty teenage sons, and spends more time on the weekend roads than a taxi driver.
Syrinx hosts a series of courses on:
These courses are held at our training facility, located on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, Australia.
We attend fellows at their workplace to perform theatre based peer reviews. This is a simple, straight forward and effective way of generating points and satisfying the intention of the Maintenance of Professional Standards (MOPS) requirements.
We can provide reviews on most days of the week if given some notice.
Main benefits:
We have a training centre in the Northern Beaches of Sydney where we run ALS, CICO, ECT, Swan Ganz Catheterization, Perfusion and cockpit resource management courses.
With over 20 years of training experience we can generate bespoke learning experiences using classroom, H/w, S/w , didactic teaching & interactive tutorials.
If you have an unusual teaching need, it is likely that we can generate a solution to meet your exact training requirement.

"I have been working with Stewart since the early 90's, and when he developed the ACTOR simulator, it revolutionised the teaching of ECT. It allowed trainees to have an experience as if it was a live person, but gave plenty of time to simulate different scenarios and to discuss the different decisions that could be made. Stewart provides a specialised expertise in Anaesthesia. The anaesthetic needs for ECT are quite different to general surgery. In fact, the success of the ECT totally depends on the close co-operation between the Psychiatrist and the Anaesthetist. The ACTOR simulator provides an excellent opportunity to practice this teamwork."
- Dr Bill Lyndon, Director, ECT Services, Northside Group Hospitals
"ACTOR is an excellent teaching tool for ECT providing me with the ability to train effectively without the stress and pressure of time. It is easy to set up and use. Usually in an hour session, trainees get the opportunity to experience about 8 opportunities to simulate ECT with a good variety of settings."
- Dr Graeme Halliday MD, Director of ECT Service, Concord Centre Centre for Mental Health Concord Hospital, Concord, Sydney Australia
